[Bph-announce] Cassandra - Canadian Opera World Premiere

The world premiere of the Canadian chamber opera "Cassandra" takes
place this week!
With libretto by the celebrated playwright Gordon Portman and music by
Toronto composer Ian McAndrew, this 12-tone serial composition tells
the tragic tale of the legendary Cassandra, Princess of the Trojans.
Some of Canada's outstanding singers are taking part in this concert
production: soprano Carolyn Sinclair (in the title role of Cassandra),
soprano Jane Archibald (Electra/Andromache), mezzo-soprano Jo-Anne
Bentley (Hecuba/Clytemnestra), tenor Eric Shaw (Apollo/Pyrrhus/Sailor),
baritone Andrew Tees (Agamemnon), and bass Jean-Paul Decosse
(Priam/Ajax). They will be joined by a 10-piece chamber orchestra, all
under the directon of Michael Jarvis.
There are two performances:
HAMILTON: Friday, May 23, 2003 at 8 pm
St. Joseph's Church
(corner of Herkimer and Locke Streets)
TORONTO: Sunday, May 25, 2003 at 8 pm
St. Anne's Church
(Dundas St. West and Gladstone)
