Dear All,
Anyone can be distressed by anything that another
says, regardless of their intentions. The
probability of this happening is greater in these
circumstances because we don't 'know' each other.
It's useful for us all to recognise this
regardless of which end of the event we are on.
A simple apology - privately or publicly - is
generally all that's required. The purpose would
be to acknowledge someone's distress. It doesn't
mean anyone has done anything wrong.
I don't believe Christian was saying anything
other than to make a comment spawned of sarcasm.
Drawing extreme parallels is always a means to
generate humour.
I, for instance, am not partial to jokes about the
Irish, but who'd know that - other than Jon B :))
(you bastard!)
However (and if you don't know the history of
Ireland check out the "great hunger' which caused
the population to drop from over 8 million to
around 4 million) I can put up with a few jokes;
though I've usually heard them all.
Clearly Adolf Hitler and Bill Gates are not
identical twins. To make comments about such in
jest, is just that - in jest.
Given we all offend someone, somewhere, sometime,
just means we're all the same - nothing more than
human.
Regards,
Patrick
