Hi all:

I have spent the last week and a half trying to record TV, without
success, and could use some help.

System: New Pentium dual core, 2 GB RAM, with a pcHDTV HD-5500 TV card, a
Sound Blaster Live card (the on-board Intel chip simply does not work),
OpenSUSE 10.3 (64 bit), ALSA sound. Note that sound is via a cord from
the tuner to the Line input of the SB card.

I can - play and listen to DVDs, play mp3's, capture ra streams, in
general everything seems to work, ... except recording TV.

Software:

I have tried:

xawtv4 - ignores configuration file, cannot configure stations (ignores
	  user input).

xawtv - crashes on startup

xine - cannot configure or start.

ffmpeg - samples in docs don't work, docs very bad, I can record video,
	 but no sound.

cinelera - cannot record anything, got a green-screen recording once, no
	   sound

kdetv - video, sound needs to be manually un-muted.

some others with a variety of similar results

mplayer/gmplayer/mencoder - can display video and sound.
Ok, promising, now adding '-dumpstream' to the command line, mplayer
crashes, and gmplayer ignores it. adding -dumpvideo to gmplayer, creates
"stream.dump', a huge, apparently blank, file.
Adding '-dumpaudio' does nothing.

Working command line is:

(g)mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:norm=NTSC-M:chanlist=us-cable:channel=46

Any suggestions, please.

Thanks
