[Wftl-lug] Good, reliable, wireless routers

Sorry for a me too, but me too. I've got the WRT54GL. I haven't taken the plunge and put an alternate O/S on it yet, but I like knowing I could. So far it's been great, and I've had a long string of success with Linksys products. I use the same manufacturer for my router and my lan cards. Since I've settled on a Linksys router, I only buy Linksys cards. That's probably overkill, especially when we're talking 'g' protocol, but ~may~ be an issue if you're trying for 'n'.

Linksys sells better antennas for their wireless routers. I'm using the stock antennas with mine, and in my 1950s house get signal from the basement to the attic, but not too far out in the yard. Then again, at -7C, I'm not too interested in being out in the yard.

If your stuff is only lasting a few months, could you be having power problems? Perhaps putting a small battery backed UPS on it to condition the power could be a possible solution to the early mortality.

Cheers!
Gar

Putting my support behind the WRT54GL, I use it personally and have
 convinced
several of my friends to grab it as well. Not only is it a solid piece
 of
hardware, it allows you to run the stock firmware or install 3rd party
 such
as DD-WRT (which is what I use).
