Hey John:
To change the boot sequence of your computer you have to bring
up the BIOS menu. That is accomplished by pressing a key
just after the computer powers on and displays information about the BIOS
date/time, etc. It will usually display the KEY you need to press to bring
up the BIOS menu. That KEY unfortunately no the same for all computers
however, one of the following will usually do it; DEL (the delete key on
the NUM pad. Usually labeled "Delete" and located in close proximity to the
"Insert" key). Another option is the F1
key and/or the F10 key.
If you can tell us what type of computer you have, i.e. do you have a
computer from one of the major manufacturer, i.e. Dell, IBM, HP, etc. or a
computer from your local computer shop.
Sometimes the Boot sequence menu is displayed clearly, in other cases it is
not.
Sometimes you can find it as the Second menu item along the left side (i
can't remember )
with something like "Advanced BIOS Features". Used the NON-DESTRUCTIVE
arrow keys, (the ones without any number above each arrow) to move up or
down through the menu items.
Once you have that second item selected ("Advanced BIOS Features") press the
"ENTER" key.
If with then display what appears to be a slew of things however what you
should look for is something like First Boot Device, Second Boot Device,
Third Boot Device.
If you found those, again use the NON-DESTRUCTIVE arrow keys (down arrow) to
move
to the First Boot Device. Press the ENTER key. That should bring up
another small menu
at which point you can selected the First device the computer should boot
from. At the moment, from what you have described, it is booting from the
first hard drives, HDD1 or something similar.
I can't remember about this one, but use the arrow or page-up page-down keys
to select the CDROM/DVD for the First Boot Device. If you feel as if you
have made a mistake press the ESC
key untill you get back to the full screen menu.
If your were successful with the previous step then go ensure that the
Second Boot Device is
set to your Hard Drive (again some acronym such as HDD). Use the
aforementioned procedure
used for setting the Frist boot device but this time choose HDD
That ensures that if you do not have a CD placed in the CDROM drive it will
default to booting
from the Second Boot Device which in this case would be the device you just
set for the Second Boot Device, i.e. the hard drive.
When you feel as if you have done this correctly then you can select the
Save and Exit. When it prompts you to save the info use "Y" . Make sure
the DVD is placed in the DVD Drive. then
select "y".
It should then boot from the DVD.
Hope this helps.
