I know nothing of the magazine business. I honestly do not know if most of
the revenue stream comes from sales/subscriptions or advertisers. Perhaps
it is a balance and amalgamation of both. It does not take a rocket
scientist to figure out an online publication has less overhead than a print
publication. That said, how long does it take for a new magazine venture to
recoup it's initial costs and operate in the black?
A magazine dedicated to the new Linux user is a bold move since you are
seeking a specific segment of an already niche market.
I've been reading and archiving Linux Format Magazine since December 2002.
They used to have a small magazine included that was called Linux Pro. They
have now incorporated that into the body of the main magazine. They have
tutorials at the end of every issue that can be very helpful to new users.
I wonder if the immediate future of a Linux Mag for newbies would have to be
a sub project of a magazine that has life to it. If so, who would do it?
LJ, LinuxWorld, Linux Magazine (US or UK), Linux Format, Linux User and
Developer?
I hope we see a regular publication again and soon.
