Hey Charles, I'm not really a hacker, more a
desktop person and I read Slashdot, Linux.com and
Newsforge 98 days out of a hundred :) Desktoplinux
and others probably a bit less.
I quite liked Tux Mag and feel sad that it's not
around.
I'd be quite keen to provide input. I'm always on
the look out of new information and applications -
more out of curiosity often.
As an example of my 'desktop' use I:
Make videos of my kids using Kino, DVD styler, Zs4
GOPchop and Avidimux (as well as some CLI stuff)
Use GIMP a lot for graphic fiddling of photos,
images, design etc (with a graphic tablet)
Use Xsane a lot (for scanning of course :))
Use Audacity of editing sound (which I then use in
Kino or for other projects including disk burning)
Use Digikam and GTkam quite a bit
NVU (building my daughter's website)
Do video and CD ripping (e.g.. dvdshrink - okay, I
admit it, I use this in the CLI)
Do video conferencing with rels overseas
I've even set up my Lightscribe burner on my
Fedora laptop and would love to get into Scribus
and Inkscape.
I mention all of this only because the range of
things that I think you can do are so great, as a
desktop user, that there is a huge variety of
things to write about, highlight, provide
information about, provide links to etc.
Oh, and I'd be very interested in providing input
to the proposed project.
This LUG is very catholic (sorry Jon B, but you
know what I mean :)) in it's membership and
interests. It's also very friendly and helpful to
it's members (thank you, thank you everyone) that
I think a mag (.pdf, site-based whatever) would be
very interesting, informative and useful and would
have the potential for broadening the membership.
Okay, I'll stop there.
Regards,
Patrick
