This is interesting.
In Australia, NSW at least, we have a major exam at the end of Year
10 (the "School Certificate") and at the end of Year 12 (the "Higher
School Certificate" - required for entrance into University).
Everyone gets one, no matter what mark you get - you get a
"TER" (Tertiary Entrance Ranking) from 1 to 100, with most of the
good courses (IT, Medicine, etc) requiring 95 or better.
Just this week they have FINALLY decided to change the rules - now,
from this year, if you don't get over a certain mark (they haven't
decided what it is yet !!), you don't get one !
But, of course, the bloody teachers don't want to do it !

Before getting a job in the tech industry, you should consider
learning Chinese and Hindi first. Either you'll be learning it to
get in, or you'll be learning it to speak to your future boss.
