The supercapacitor gets my vote. The info I've seen on it says that they should be able to be recharged in just moments instead of hours. Pretty cool. And of course, the wireless power is Nikolai Tesla all over again. He really was on to something! (And way ahead of his time.) :^)

That's OK-- it prompted a "Whatever happened to.." moment that was useful.
It's ABSOLUTELY true, though, that battery technology has hit a brick
wall. Between wireless power, fuel cells, and battery-replacing
"supercapacitors" capable of holding enough charge to power devices
for hours, the future of portable power will look a LOT different from
what's available now.
